Confirmed by Google Trends Analyst John Mueller on Twitter earlier this month, the new boost will only affect websites not previously given a mobile-friendly ranking.
Significant changes in site traffic could be seen by webmasters due to the upgrade, which builds on the original algorithm created in April last year.
A page-by-page signal will be used to assess and index the entirety of websites in real-time, meaning the time taken to impact and update search results could differ dramatically.
